Head to Gehna’s new address for bespoke designs in jewellery
Tucked away into a bylane, Gehna, the city’s latest jewellery store, intends making Harrington road a carat destination. Housed in a private bungalow, the 2,000 sq ft space is tastefully designed for jewellery display, private conferences and designers’ rooms. Owner Sunith Samdaria tells his story, “I started Gehna because I realised there was a market in custom jewellery for a niche group. There were clients who wanted something done to match their specific taste, those who required something for an occasion and even ladies who ordered distinctive pieces to match existing jewellery.”
The talented 40-something has an impressive list of clients ranging from entrepreneurs, politicians, professionals and page three regulars. Besides accredition and experience, Samdaria confesses, “Diamonds have fascinated me since childhood.” The former Surat diamond trader adds, “Our design team is headed by the award-winning Tara Premsingh. I love making jewellery with just gold and silver, as there is a lot of scope of playing around with textures, forms, shapes and to do intricate work like filigree and nakaash,” he says of his repertoire.
All of the designs at Gehna are hand sketched and hand crafted by a team of expert goldsmiths. Very specific about the quality, sheen and appearance of the gems used, Samdaria sources rare and versatile stones from his travels.
